Job Description


ATOC is the trade association for the UK passenger rail industry. Integrated Transport is responsible for facilitating joint integrated initiatives on behalf of Train Operating Companies (TOCs). Including: Plusbus, station travel plans, carclubs, community rail and cycle-rail. The team presently oversees more than £30m of project deliver and manages high profile sustainable transport projects for both the rail industry and UK government.


The role will provide assistance and project support as part of a team that managing and delivery of Integrated Transport work and projects, work closely with key industry stakeholders and train operators, helping the operators to explore and develop new areas of work and assist in delivering pilots and best practice to help the industry deliver this work in the future.

Working in the Integrated Transport team, as part of the Policy Directorate, and line managed by the Head of Integrated Transport the Integrated Transport Officer will provide project and event coordination, delivery and support.

Outputs and Key Tasks


  1. Contribute to the overall goals and deliveries of the Integrated Transport Team.

  2. Operate as effective project support, able to help deliver Integrated Transport related work to agreed deadlines.

  3. Assist and support the day to day deliveries of the Integrated Transport section.

  4. Provide administration for the delivery and management of cycle-rail work.

Key Tasks

  1. Contribute to the overall goals and deliveries of the Integrated Transport Team.

  2. Operate as an effective project coordinator able deliver Integrated Transport related work to agreed deadlines.

  3. Coordinate the day to day deliveries of the Integrated Transport section.

  4. Coordinate the delivery and support the multi mullion pound cycle-rail fund, under the supervision of the head of department.

  5. To organise, and coordinate the delivery of events and acting as the secretariat for key stakeholder meetings as directed by the Head of Integrated Transport.

  6. To undertake specific project coordination work and other duties as directed by the Head of Integrated Transport.

  7. Coordinate and deliver the annual Cycle-Rail Awards, acting as project manager for the event.

  8. Coordinate and supervise the national cycle audit.

  9. Coordinate, supervise and maintain the cycle carriage and cycle parking information and produce a cycle-rail information as required and update National Rail Enquiries.

Personal Specification


  1. Candidates must be a graduate.

  2. Have the ability to multi-task and plan workload efficiently.

  3. Be a self-starter, able to work/respond independently and deal with unforeseen problems and circumstances.

  4. PC literate with good keyboard skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  5. A confident decision maker.

  6. Have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  7. Have good inter-personal skills both with external contacts and internal colleagues.

  8. A creative and analytical thinker.

  9. Good team player.


  1. Understanding of and an interest in the transport or rail industry.

  2. Experience of dealing with sensitive or confidential information.

  3. Previous administrative experience.

  4. Experience of working with an HR computerised system.

Employer: Association of Train Operating Companies

Salary (per annum pro rata) £25,000 - £30,000 depending on experience
