Number of Positions: 1

Salary (per annum pro rata): £20,000 per annum FTE

Start Date: ASAP - to start 1st Jan 2021

Length of Contract: 6 months, possibility of extension subject to performance and funding. We are open to full-time/part-time/job share applications for this role

Overview:

We’re an exciting and progressive charity and not-for-profit organisation, passionate about bringing people together and making sustainability mainstream. We undertake research and resource and deliver sustainability projects independently and in partnership with others.

We’re looking for a Sustainability Projects and Education Officer to work on sustainability research projects, provide assistance with our bid/grant funding submissions, support our Learning & Development work, including programmes such as Sustainable Futures, and to help with our monitoring and evaluation activities.

  • Helping ethical & responsible organisations to deliver their sustainability & carbon reduction goals

  • Delivering action on fuel and food poverty within disadvantaged groups through projects with local councils and communities

We need:

We need a talented new team member to help us to drive forward our research activities and project work. We are looking for a Sustainability Projects & Education Officer who can produce high quality research reports, impactful blogs and can confidently present our work to groups. Teamwork is crucial for us. You will need to share our passions for working hard, having fun and striving for a more secure and resilient future for all.

You are:

  • A strong team player and a confident, enthusiastic and engaging communicator

  • Educated to degree level, a competent researcher and highly articulate

  • Passionate about sustainability

  • Able to demonstrate strong skills in organisation, prioritisation and meeting deadlines

  • A natural collaborator, able to build and manage relationships

  • Experienced in producing high-quality written reports and detailed research

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and aware of Data Protection requirements

  • Willing to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.

In an ideal world, you are also:

  • A postgraduate with a qualification in a Sustainability/Environmental discipline or the ability to demonstrate knowledge of a wide range of sustainability issues including energy, waste/circular economy, transport, biodiversity etc.

  • Experienced in sustainability writing/blogging

  • Experienced working in an outward-facing role, with a strong interest in education

Day in the Life - COVID-19 edition:

9am Make and consume coffee or tea whilst catching up on emails and your sustainability news feed.

9.15am Review the topics being covered in today’s Sustainable Futures workshop. Ensure the technology is working and send out a reminder to attendees with final details.

10:00am Research and plan out this week’s Blog post on Build Back Better.

11.00am Socially distanced/virtual huddle – our daily team catch-up to review progress on projects, action points, new ideas and opportunities and to share sustainability news.

12pm Support our Training Lead to deliver an interactive and engaging online workshop to one of our Sustainable Futures Programme cohorts, leading and facilitating one of the breakout sessions

1pm Lunch – try one of Oakham’s fine coffee shops or delis!

2pm Work with our Chief Executive to identify data requirements for a grant funding application for a new project idea

2.30pm 1:1 with line manager – monthly session to review progress, share thoughts on personal development opportunities and talk through any issues.

3pm Finish analysing data collected as part of our current research topic on Future Skills.

4pm Get carried away planning an exciting new behaviour change project with a colleague until you realise it’s…

5.30pm Time to go home after an amazing day’s work!

Need-to-know Details:

Hours/Week:Flexible, we are open to full-time/part-time/job share applications for this role. A full-time working week is 37.5 hours and we operate a flexi-time policy.

Annual leave: 25 days plus 8 bank holidays per annum (pro rata if part time)

Travel & Work outside normal hours: In “normal times”, we sometimes travel within the UK to attend conferences, deliver learning workshops or work with our partners. As a sustainability charity, we try not to travel more than necessary and encourage the use of remote technologies where possible.

Please note that the successful applicant will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check as we work with youth groups.
