What will this position involve?

The Business Development Executive will be the front face of Peterborough Energy, the councils low cost energy tariff. You will be responsible for proactively raising awareness of Peterborough Energy and its benefits. You will forge and develop relationships with all the businesses across the city to engage their employees in becoming more energy efficient including giving advice on how they can switching tariffs. You will be dividing your time into 75% business engagement, working to monthly targets and 25% project officer work (switching employees, manning stands, organising events). You will have exceptional sales experience and a proven success record, ideally with businesses in Peterborough, along with a natural flare for communication, strength in networking, talking to new businesses and you will be a self-starter.

You will support other parts of GES as and when required, undertaking project management tasks and grow with the success of the scheme.

You will be an ideas person, a confident communicator willing to challenge how things are done, capable of building relationships and networks, creative thinker, self-motivated, with a good level of marketing experience. You need minimal supervision and will just crack on and get the job done. A real go-getter.

Who are Green Energy Switch (GES)?

Green Energy Switch (GES) is a subsidiary of Peterborough Environment City Trust, an independent and innovative environmental charity helping to protect and enhance the environment throughout Peterborough and beyond. GES donates all its profits to PECT to help fund their work. Green Energy Switch is a dynamic company that delivers a broad range of energy services across the UK for businesses, registered social landlords, local authorities and individuals. We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join our highly skilled team based in Peterborough.

Peterborough City Council, OVO Energy and GES are working together to promote Peterborough Energy. Peterborough Energy is the brand name of a partnership between Peterborough City Council and OVO Energy (OVO). Together they offer a competitive dual fuel energy tariff offering a no-nonsense, competitively priced, customer focused energy service to residents in Peterborough city properties. Peterborough Energy is owned by Peterborough City Council managed and administrated with the help of partner energy supplier, OVO Energy and GES run the face-to-face sales function.

Salary (per annum pro rata): £27,000

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop, lead and directly deliver on the B2B engagement strategy for Peterborough Energy, ensuring it provides strategic direction. The strategy will:

  2. Achieve city-wide engagement.

  3. Increase supply of Peterborough Energy to employees / local residents.

  4. Recruitment of businesses through cold calls, database leads and referrals.

  5. Set, monitor and report key performance indicators for new switches ensuring the project meets targets.

  6. Recruitment and promotion of events to new and existing businesses.

  7. Attend networking events and other business meetings and pitch and present to secure opportunities.

  8. Devise, develop and implement campaigns as required.

  9. Maximise any new opportunity for promoting Peterborough Energy to the business sector.

  10. Be responsible for the successful development and implementation of Peterborough Energy’s identity to strengthen brand awareness and recognition within the business sector of the city.

  11. Forge and develop new and existing relationships with businesses to motivate them to engage their employees to switch as part of their corporate social responsibility.

  12. With guidance from the city council's Marketing Manager, create and lead on Peterborough Energy campaigns and work closely with the council’s media, digital and internal teams to see them executed.

  13. Create and develop new innovative ways to communicate Peterborough Energy messages to residents, businesses and all stakeholder groups.

  14. Plan and project manage Peterborough Energy marketing events and analyse their success.

  15. Evaluate the effectiveness of all Peterborough Energy marketing activity.

Essential

  1. A recognised communications qualification or degree or equivalent experience of at least two years’ working in a sales and marketing team.

  2. Experience in developing and implementing marketing strategies.

  3. Proven experience of customer care and relationship building within the business sector.

  4. Confident, resourceful and assertive communicator.

  5. Good interpersonal skills, ability to engage participants and work with a range of businesses.

  6. Good understanding of marketing and communications tools including (online, advertising, events, media relations) and how they can be applied effectively.

  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Attention to details whilst also seeing the bigger picture.

  8. Ability to demonstrate a high level of self-motivation and to complete tasks with the minimum of supervision. Resourceful, with a strong desire to succeed. A flexible ‘can-do’ attitude.

  9. Ability to work effectively under pressure, to prioritise and manage a wide range of tasks and to be proactive, reactive and well organised.

  10. Passion for environmental / sustainable development issues

Desirable

  1. Experience of working in a similar role with businesses in Peterborough

  2. Experience of energy tariffs and working with utility companies

  3. Local knowledge of Peterborough and the businesses that reside here
