Events Assistant Intern

Location: Shoreditch

Duration: 12 Weeks

Working hours: 35 hours per week

Apply for an internship with the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES), a charitable organisation and professional body promoting and raising public awareness of environmental science.

Opportunity background:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented graduate to join us for a 12-week full-time paid internship. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a fun and social team based only a short walk from Shoreditch High Street, Liverpool Street and the famous Spitalfields market in central London.

This position will provide the post holder with the opportunity to develop excellent organisation, communication and negotiation skills; gain valuable networking experience with environmental science professionals; exercise effective self-management and problem-solving; and further their understanding of environmental issues.

Should the opportunity arise during the 12-week placement, the post holder will also be invited to attend external events or meetings with other members of the team, including the CEO, to gain a greater understanding of the role of a professional body in the environmental science sector.

Key Tasks:

  • Assist the Events and Training Officer in the delivery and promotion of all events from conception to completion, fulfilling project milestones

  • Manage social media platforms and deliver marketing collateral to increase visibility of events

  • Support the Events and Training Officer and CEO in devising a series of Environmental Employability Day workshops for IES Student Members

  • Establish relationships and secure contracts with event venues across the UK, and attend venue viewings

  • Secure and arrange appropriate sponsorship, co-badging and exhibitors for all IES events

  • Target new audiences within the environmental science sector and develop appropriate mediums and marketing initiatives to reach them

  • Provide support to the Events and Training Officer at events, including on-site delivery of operations and management of delegates

  • Maintain and update website content for all events, and ensure that materials (photos, video recordings, audio, etc.) are collected and uploaded to appropriate media channels

Skills & Attributes Specification:


  • Interested in environmental issues and event organisation

  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • A positive and creative “can do” approach

  • Able to balance a number of objectives at once using your time management skills

  • Highly organised with willingness to take ownership of projects


  • Experience in marketing or creating promotional content

  • Experience in event organisation

  • Experience of engaging with a range of stakeholders

  • Qualified in an Environmental or Marketing related discipline

  • Experience with InDesign, Photoshop or Premier Pro
