Funded by the key aluminium packaging stakeholders, the Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organisation (Alupro) is working to fulfil the industry’s obligation to meet, and exceed, recycling targets for aluminium packaging.

Alupro’s principal objective is to protect the market for aluminium packaging by maximising the UK’s recycling performance.

You will join a team responsible for providing practical support and advice to partners involved in aluminium packaging recycling throughout the UK. Including developing and operating viable collection programmes and the implementation of innovative recycling campaigns.

Alupro is an industry funded, not-for-profit organisation with over 25 years’ experience representing the UK’s aluminium packaging industry. We work to fulfil the industry’s obligation to meet, and exceed, recycling targets for aluminium packaging.

We are achieving this by working in partnership with local authorities, the waste management industry and the wider metal packaging sector to develop and stimulate the UK’s collection infrastructure. We also manage and run consumer information and education campaigns to encourage participation in recycling schemes.

We need:

We need a Programme Manager to join our team, you will be responsible for providing practical support and advice to partners involved in aluminium packaging recycling throughout the UK.

You will be an ambassador for the aluminium packaging sector, promoting the benefits of recycling aluminium packaging and actively contributing to maintaining the positive profile with consumers, householders, collectors and campaign partners.

Whilst the primary focus is boosting recycling levels for aluminium packaging, the role necessitates liaising with partners from the steel packaging sector and on occasions representing the wider metal packaging sector.

We are looking for someone to initiate and maintain partnerships with local authorities, waste management companies, scrap metal recyclers and community businesses. You will identify opportunities for deploying and project managing Alupro’s campaigns and industry programmes which are designed to increase the collection of aluminium and metal packaging.

You are:

  • An excellent communicator.

  • Able to develop highly profitable relationships/partnerships, with a proven track record.

  • Highly self-motivated and able to prioritise effectively.

  • Able to demonstrate a basic understanding of marketing/communications tools.

  • Comfortable working as part of a team or on your own.

  • Naturally creative with excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Competent and confident in using all Microsoft Office programmes and other digital platforms.

  • A qualified driver with a full, clean driving licence, able to travel throughout the UK

In an ideal world, you are also:

  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of collection systems for recyclable materials (not essential as full training will be given).

Key Campaigns you will be working on include:

  • Every Can Counts - focusing on drinks cans used outside the home

  • MetalMatters - focusing on improving capture rates for metal packaging at the kerbside

  • Foil and Aerosol Programme - working with local authorities and waste management companies

You can also benefit from access to a company car and you will be eligible for an annual bonus up to 10% of your salary.

Day in the life:

  • Liaise with a local authority, encouraging them to collect the full range of aluminium packaging. Work with them to encourage participation in the MetalMatters and Foil and Aerosol programmes.

  • As part of the Every Can Counts (ECC) team contribute to the development of the programme.

  • Working with the ECC Programme Manager, schedule meetings with potential partners including the community sector, shopping centres, universities, businesses, sports clubs, local authorities etc.

  • Provide support to a community recycling organisation.

  • Develop your understanding of local authority/waste management company - run packaging collection systems, providing technical advice as required to maximise the recovery of aluminium packaging.

  • Contribute to the organisation of a promotional event to achieve positive media coverage and maximise awareness among target audiences.

  • Update one of the programme steering groups on the progress made.

  • Develop a project proposal to gain new sponsorship.

  • Finalise your updates for the day to Alupro’s CRM.

  • This role requires extensive travel in the UK.
