What will this position involve?

Green Energy Switch are recruiting three Project Officers to work in its Energy Services Team. As a Project Officer you will provide a comprehensive advisory service on smart metering to British Gas customers. You will work with British Gas to enable their customers to take up a smart meter. You will provide positive face to face resident engagement. The smart meter roll-out program constitutes the largest transformation of a core area of nationwide infrastructure undertaken in a generation. You will provide advice and guidance on smart meters and their benefits to British Gas customers, undertaking necessary checks to assist the smooth installation of smart meters to eligible customers.
You will be successful in resident engagement activities without the use of high pressure tactics and be able to proactively achieve high targets with minimal supervision. You’ll be given all the support and guidance you need, and you will have the opportunity to become part of a highly successful organisation making a real and positive difference to the local area.

Green Energy Switch (GES) is a subsidiary of Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT), an independent and innovative environmental charity helping to protect and enhance the environment throughout Peterborough and beyond. GES donates all its profits to PECT to help fund their work. Green Energy Switch is a dynamic company that delivers a broad range of energy services across the UK for businesses, registered social landlords, local authorities and individuals. We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join our new team working in the Essex area.

What is the Green Energy Switch team like?

Green Energy Switch is a small friendly, efficient and extremely knowledgeable team of eleven. The post holder will sit within the Energy Services Team.

This opportunity is a fixed term contract with possibility of expansion. The experience and training gained through the project, will give the post holder an excellent insight into the energy sector and will ensure they are well placed to pursue future employment in the field of energy efficiency. GES offer a contributory pension scheme, a health scheme and 24 days annual leave (pro rata).

Salary (per annum pro rata): £22,000

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  1. To undertake face-to-face advisory visits to pre-notified British Gas customers to offer their customers the opportunity to have a smart meter installed

  2. Successful switch of 70+ residents to smart meters per week

  3. To provide residents with knowledgeable information relating to smart meters

  4. To persuade and encourage customers through the provision of practical advice and guidance.

  5. Assist the Project Coordinator with the development and refinement of processes, to ensure efficient delivery of the project

  6. Have a keen eye for detail

  7. Be customer focused with strong communication skills

  8. Evaluate and monitor activities using performance indicators

  9. Attend local events and speak to businesses and residents

  10. Ability to work to and achieve challenging targets

  11. Be highly organised in your approach to sales, documentation and record keeping

  12. Ability to multi-task, prioritise and manage own workload to meet strict deadlines and targets

  13. Able to work well under pressure

  14. Support the Project Coordinator on other tasks appropriate to the scale, as and when required.

  15. Any other ad hoc duties

Essential

  1. Experience of working in a public facing role.

  2. Knowledge of domestic sustainable energy and the smart meter roll-out.

  3. An excellent written and verbal communicator, with the ability to provide clear, relevant technical and non-technical advice to members of the public.

  4. Excellent organisational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritise work.

  5. Ability to promote and provide targeted advice and assistance to residents to encourage smart meter upgrades.

  6. Ability to work with businesses and other organisations, demonstrating a high degree of professional engagement. Including working in collaboration with, and on behalf of British Gas and GES.

  7. Excellent IT skills, including a good working knowledge of: Microsoft Windows, Excel, Outlook, Word.

  8. Willingness to undertake an Enhanced satisfactory clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service formally known as the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosure.

Desirable

  1. Ability to prepare written and visual information.

  2. Understanding of smart meters, the roll-out and their characteristics

  3. Ability to pick up new skills and knowledge quickly and learn and develop in an ever-changing environment.

  4. Enthusiasm for and understanding of environmental / sustainable development issues.
