University College London (UCL) is a public research university, it is the oldest and largest constituent college of the University of London. As a research intensive institution, there are a number of challenges to becoming a more environmentally and socially sustainable university.
You will work as part of the UCL Sustainability Team to deliver a variety of projects to improve UCL’s Sustainability Performance including, rewilding the Bloomsbury campus and Plastic Free UCL. You will boost engagement and encourage behaviour change across campus.
The UCL Sustainability Team, we drive forward the university's key sustainability aims. We work with the UCL community to embed sustainability into research, buildings and behaviours at UCL, and beyond.
We have been active for 6 years and in that time the Institution has moved up to 26th place in People and Planet’s Green League, won numerous awards for our sustainability performance and has grown to ten members.
You will be joining a dynamic and fun team committed to making UCL a more sustainable place. We have an open and collaborative team culture; welcoming new ideas and ways of working.

A creative and pro-active individual driven by a passion to make changes for a sustainable future. You should be happy working with a good deal of autonomy to establish new projects and develop solutions to sometimes complex problems.
You will work to deliver a variety of projects to improve UCL’s Sustainability Performance, boosting engagement and positive behaviour change in sustainability across campus. You will work with the Senior Sustainability Manager (Energy, Carbon, Water) to deliver a variety of projects.

We would like the successful candidate to use their time at UCL to develop their experience and knowledge as much as possible to give them strong experience for their future career here or elsewhere. Five of our previous Change Agents have been made permanent UCL employees.
Day in the Life / Key responsibilities:
Support the development of UCL’s new Sustainability Strategy with particular focus on the three signature programmes; Wild Bloomsbury, Plastic Free UCL & Climate Change.
Implement three projects to increase biodiversity and wellbeing by re-wilding our Bloomsbury Campus.
Deliver a sustainable literacy project with a number of key departments at UCL to identify and facilitate opportunities to increase sustainable literacy for both students and staff.
Launch a new engagement programme with UCL’s departments to identify opportunities to integrate sustainability into core departmental activities.
Liaise with UCL departments, researchers and external stakeholders to develop and agree projects.
Prepare business cases to gain approval for the projects.
Implement the projects alongside other UCL departments.
Nitty Gritty Details:
Hours/Week: 36.5 hours
Annual leave: 27 days per annum
Work outside normal hours: Occasional attendance at evening events may be required. This will be eligible for Time off in Lieu.
