£25,500 during probationary period which lasts 12 weeks

£26,000 after successful probationary period

Rising to £33,000 by annual increments, based on performance

Salix Finance is currently an independent not for profit company established to accelerate public sector investment in energy efficiency technologies. Salix is publicly funded by BEIS, DfE, and the Welsh and Scottish Governments and works with public sector bodies throughout the UK, helping them make progress towards achieving their carbon reduction targets. We do this by offering interest free loans for energy efficiency projects. Job Purpose

Salix works to enable the public sector in the UK to reduce its carbon footprint. Working as a member of the Technical Services Team, the Technical Support Officer will apply knowledge of the sustainability sector, energy efficiency technologies and first principle methodologies for calculating energy and carbon savings to review and assess applications made for Salix funding programmes and provide technical advice to the Salix delivery teams and public-sector clients.

Key responsibilities

  • Support a teamwork approach to deliver project checking and testing for all Salix funding programmes

  • Review supporting information such as energy savings calculations, technical specifications, project costs and business cases, providing feedback on the quality of supporting evidence

  • Liaise and maintain a strong relationship with Salix’s technical contractor to deliver testing and checking of business case projects

  • Compose and resolve technical queries on projects with public sector clients

  • Support delivery teams and clients with building of project pipelines and undertake risk assessments for delivery of projects

  • Support with the analysis of energy and carbon savings achieved by Salix funded projects

  • Establish, maintain and engage with the improvement of systems and processes for ensuring the effective delivery of key testing targets

  • Provide technical advice to the delivery, marketing and finance teams

  • Support marketing team with development of marketing material

  • Provide technical support at meetings with clients and/or suppliers where required

Key duties

  • Management of own day to day tasks

  • Conducting site visits to evaluate energy efficiency potential, provide advice on making a Salix application and supporting pipeline building

  • Attending client meetings to discuss funding and project opportunities

  • Network and promote Salix at key stakeholder events, conferences and presentations

  • To develop staff knowledge on low carbon technologies by supporting shared learning opportunities

  • Engage in staff meeting and training events

  • Prepare written reports and analysis on project testing and energy/carbon saving performance

Person Specification

Key Criteria

  • Project management skills

  • Experience of measuring and analysing actual energy and carbon savings data from energy saving projects

  • Effective time management with ability to manage, prioritise and deliver a number of projects and work programmes within timescale

  • Extensive knowledge of energy efficiency and low carbon technologies and their application in the built environment

  • Ability to work flexibly and proactively within a small team

  • Strong numeracy and data analysis skills

  • Pays close attention to detail, ensuring work is delivered to a high standard

  • Self-motivated and good organisational skills

  • Ability to demonstrate and understand equal opportunities

  • Willingness to learn and commitment to personal development and training

Essential Criteria

  • Degree or equivalent professionally relevant qualification

  • Evidence of further professional development

  • Relevant work experience in a building or energy services capacity

  • Experience in providing advice and support to managers

  • Presentation experience

  • Customer service or public engagement experience

  • Strong IT skills, including all Microsoft Office Programmes with a focus on Microsoft Excel

  • Communicates effectively and confidently verbally and in writing

  • Fosters collaborative and coordinated working across teams and in partnership with other organisations

  • Ability to positively represent Salix and good customer service skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to effectively contribute at meetings and events participation

  • Willingness to travel across the UK

  • Ability to make decisions that demonstrate commitment to Salix’s corporate strategy and values
