Join the Energy Policy and Advice Team within Islington Council, promoting and administering high profile energy projects including the Community Energy Fund, Angelic Energy and ECO Flexible eligibility. You will develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders including local community groups, Local Authorities and energy suppliers. The team is a dynamic and busy one with a high regional and national profile. You will work alongside supportive colleagues, including a number of other Change Agents, to deliver valued and valuable services.
The Energy Policy & Advice Team at Islington Borough Council serves a lively and diverse London borough and have one of the largest energy services in UK local government. We operate a number of pioneering and innovative projects to save energy and carbon, including a heat network utilising waste heat from the London underground and SHINE (Seasonal Health Interventions Network). Between December 2010 and June 2018, SHINE received over 19,500 referrals. Islington recently launched London’s first local-government owned energy company, Angelic Energy in partnership with Robin Hood Energy.

We need an experienced individual to join our Energy Policy and Advice Team. You will promote and deliver a number of On Energy projects, including the Islington Community Energy Fund, along with the Council partnerships and processes which support delivery of Angelic Energy and ECO Flexible Eligibility. An excellent written and verbal communicator, you will have the opportunity to plan and deliver events, meetings and presentations.
• Experienced working within a public-facing role
• Experienced in managing projects and processes
• Aware/have a working knowledge of legislation, policy and practice on sustainable energy and carbon reduction.
• An excellent communicator – able to adapt style and content to suit your audience.
• A capable relationship manager with experience of networking and maintaining and developing effective stakeholder relationships.
• Knowledgeable about financial assistance available for domestic and community scale sustainable energy investment.
• Highly organised, able to prioritise a complex and varied workload.
• Able to produce clear, succinct and well-structured written reports.
• Proficient in IT, including Microsoft Office suite and with an understanding of Data Protection/GDPR.

Key responsibilities/A Day in the Life:
Lead on the day-to-day delivery of On Energy special projects.
Administer the Community Energy Fund, ensuring careful project documentation according the fund’s project management and approval systems, including details of project and financial progress.
Establish, build and maintain relationships with local community groups and other stakeholders in order to deliver the Community Energy Fund; fuel suppliers, local authorities and other stakeholders to increase the customer base of Angelic Energy; fuel suppliers, GLA, contractors and local authorities to deliver grant funding using ECO Flexible Eligibility.
Plan and deliver events, meetings and presentations to promote uptake of the Community Energy Fund, Angelic Energy and ECO Flexible Eligibility.
Work with SHINE advisors to promote suitable referrals into ECO Flexible Eligibility and the Mayor’s Warmer Homes Scheme.
Account management for all special projects including business development, stakeholder meetings, managing budgets, regular reporting and monitoring of KPIs.
Carry out a review of work programmes and prepare reports as necessary.
Offer input into responses to national, regional and local consultations from government, statutory, private and voluntary bodies.
Attend an officer meeting to represent the Energy Policy & Advice Manager.
Additionally opportunities will arise to represent the service at high profile meetings, conferences and ceremonies which may be attended by Councillors, Members of Parliament and energy industry leaders.
Nitty Gritty Details:
Hours/Week: 35 hours
Annual leave: 30 days per annum pro rata
Work outside normal hours: The post will involve occasional evening and weekend work.
