Join the Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) as a Waste & Recycling Co-ordinator! This placement is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about sustainability and wishes to gain experience in the waste and resources sector in a university setting.
You will be supporting the Waste & Recycling Manager to deliver a programme of activity to achieve an increase in the University’s recycling rate and maintain ISO14001 standards and more.

In the waste and recycling team we aim to embed the principles of the waste hierarchy to prevent, reduce, reuse, recycle and dispose of our waste. We always aim to be a zero waste to landfill University; in 2017-18 we successfully diverted all our waste (excluding building projects) from landfill!

We need:

We are looking for a Waste & Recycling Co-ordinator who can produce high quality work, confidently administer a range of activities and have a passion for developing and maintaining relationships across the university.

You will be passionate about sustainability and keen to continue your development in this sector.

You are:

  • Highly organised with excellent administrative skills. (3.1 & 4.2)

  • Experienced collecting, collating and analysing data. (4.2)

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages, particularly Microsoft Excel. (3.1)

  • A confident communicator who can adapt style and content for different audiences. (1.1 & 1.3)

  • Committed to providing a high standard of customer service. (5.2)

  • Aware and knowledgeable of sustainability issues and how they can be addressed. (2.1)

Key responsibilities:

  • Liaise with a variety of stakeholders (colleagues, contractors, customers) to proactively manage the day-to-day collection of different waste & recycling streams across the University.

  • Support the Waste & Recycling Manager to manage the waste budget to ensure continued value for money.

  • Administering all elements of the waste collection operation across campus.

  • Act as main point of liaison for all incoming correspondence into the Waste Team.

  • Maintain all legal documentation.

  • Supporting the Waste & Recycling Manager to drive high quality Environmental Management System standards to ensure the University remains ISO140001 accredited.

  • Produce data for all statutory and internal requirements.

  • Coordinate and deliver a range of communications activities to ensure staff and students are engaged and motivated to recycle.

Work outside normal hours:Infrequent as required for events
