Overview:

IMCA – the International Marine Contractors Association – aims to improve performance in the marine contracting industry worldwide. The Environmental Sustainability Advisor will be an integral part of the Association’s team, influencing member organisations’ to embed sustainability in their business strategy.

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) is a leading trade association representing the vast majority of contractors and the associated supply chain in the offshore marine construction industry worldwide. We have a membership of over 900 companies including contractors, suppliers, oil & gas companies, marine renewable energy companies and numerous non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

IMCA was formed in 1995 through the merger of the former Association of Offshore Diving Contractors (AODC, formed in 1972) and the Dynamically Positioned Vessel Owners Association (DPVOA, formed in 1989). Consequently, our operational roots and technical credentials are second to none in our industry.

Our mission is to improve performance in the marine contracting industry. We achieve this by leveraging the expertise of our members through conferences, seminars and meetings, and in publishing leading standards of technical and operating guidance in key areas of safety, quality, and offshore performance. In addition, we represent our members in dialogue with other industry bodies, regulators, oil companies and renewable energy companies. IMCA holds consultative status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and is very active in international regulatory and policy matters in the upstream industry.

We need:

We need a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Environmental Sustainability Advisor to assist the Technical Director in delivering IMCA’s work programme. You will be responsible for driving forward the HSSE Environmental Sustainability Committee to meet the Association’s sustainability agenda.

A passionate communicator and influencer you will work with IMCA’s members to instigate change, championing the elimination of single use plastics and reduction of greenhouse gases in the offshore marine environment.

Person Profile.

You are:

A spirited champion for improving the marine environment

An excellent communicator with the ability to persuade and influence a wide variety of different audiences to accelerate their profile and credentials in marine environmental matters.

Skilled to energetically liaise with member companies, solicit ideas and initiatives, and drive forward a programme for improvement on environmental sustainability for the wider IMCA membership.

A champion for the elimination of single waste plastics in a marine environment.

Knowledgeable about carbon reduction strategies.

An advocate for the reduction of carbon emissions from the IMCA membership fleet, compared with the wider shipping industry.

Person Specification:

Knowledge

  • Master’s degree in a relevant subject with experience in the field of marine environmental sustainability.

  • Excellent knowledge of environmental sustainability in the offshore marine environment.

  • Good knowledge of environmental legislation regarding IMO mandatory instruments.

Skills

  • First class communication/presentation skills (written and verbal).

  • Ability to build professional relationships and to work with various groups of expertise and seniority.

  • Skilled in influencing and persuading others.

  • Clear vision, passion and drive to lead continual improvement.

  • Ability to deliver work that is technically correct, logical and well argued.

  • Strong personal skills in representing and promoting the work of IMCA.

  • Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines.

You will be the hub of knowledge for environmental sustainability, called upon to brief senior management, prepare presentations and deliver in-house training. This role will develop your professional skills and enhance your knowledge and experience in reducing carbon emissions and tackling single-use plastics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion the elimination of single waste plastics and the reduction of greenhouse gases in the offshore marine environment

  • Attend and constructively participate in assigned IMCA committee(s) and workgroups, including preparing, attending, and delivering meetings, seminars and associated actions.

  • Drafting of guidance documents and IMCA Information Notes.

  • Consult and engage with third-party organisations (regulators, trade and technical associations. professional bodies, clients and others).

  • Monitor regulatory and technical developments which may affect IMCA members.

  • Prepare the Environmental Sustainability programme for IMCA seminars and other events, including chairman and speaker liaison.

  • Prepare Environmental Sustainability presentations for IMCA regional meetings.

  • Prepare Environmental Sustainability briefings for the senior management.

  • Consult and engage with other members of the secretariat and delivering in-house Environmental Sustainability awareness training.

  • Work collaboratively with the membership to influence and drive robust environmental management and performance improvements.

  • Provide advice to designated IMCA Management Committees, IMCA workgroups and the wider IMCA membership.

  • Provide support to the members on Environmental Sustainability enquiries.

  • Travel nationally and internationally, as required to attend appropriate meetings and events.

  • Liaise with third party organisations – regulators, professional bodies, clients and others – to represent IMCA and its members.

  • Promote the benefits of IMCA membership to relevant organisations.

  • Operate within the IMCA Code of Practice and business policies.

  • To maintain IMCA’s values.
